2023 School Year Parent Welcome Letter & Information
Dear Parents;
Welcome to the wonderful world of Kindergarten! My name is Sarah Harvey and I am so excited to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher. This will be my sixth year with Gretna Public Schools. I previously taught at Palisades Elementary in Gretna before moving to Whitetail. Teaching kindergarten was my dream job and I feel so lucky to get to teach your child each day. My husband and I have 2 kiddos of our own. Brenden, who is five and starting Kindergarten at Whitetail this year and Kaiser, who is 3 ½ and will be starting preschool this year. Needless to say, we are a busy house!
This is a very exciting time for you and your child. I am looking forward to a new year and the opportunity to meet you and your child. We will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in the coming weeks and months. I am looking forward to helping your child reach their full potential and have a successful and positive Kindergarten year.
Please feel free to call, email, or send a note with your child if you have any questions or concerns. I am also available to meet after school most days (please email to schedule a time.)
Open House:
- Back to School Open House Night is scheduled for Tuesday, August 8th from 5:00-7:00. This is a great opportunity for your child to meet me and familiarize themselves with our classroom. Please bring any school supplies & class snacks you may have on this night.
Other Information:
- Please fill out the Kindergarten Information sheet, along with the Transportation Information sheet. Please bring these to Open House. I will have additional printed copies at Open House as well. (I will be emailing this to you for easy printing and there is a google docs link on this website under the "Student Forms" tab.
- I have included the Kindergarten supply list if you need it. I have also included some donation items for our classroom that we use a lot throughout the year that are optional.
- If your child will be eating lunch at school, you can deposit money into your child’s lunch account. You can deposit as much money as you would like. When your child’s lunch account reaches a $0 balance, you will be notified by the school.
- Every afternoon, we will have snack. At the beginning of each month, each child will be asked to bring one snack to share with classmates throughout the month. You only need to send snack once a month, but please send enough for the entire class (23). It is always nice to have a variety of snacks. Some suggestions include: pretzels, popcorn, fruit snacks, apple sauce, granola bars, goldfish, etc. Thank you in advance for your donations. You are welcome to bring any snack donations to Open House. *Please be mindful and do not send any items that may contain nuts/tree nuts, as we may have students with nut allergies.
- If possible, please bring a current family picture for our family tree wall. A 4x6 or 5x7 would work best. You are welcome to bring the picture to Open House or during the first few days of school.
The months ahead will bring much growth for your child and I look forward to guiding you and your child through Kindergarten. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and hope to see you at Open House.
Sincerely,
Sarah Harvey
